The funeral will take place in London on Monday of the former Sunday World London correspondent, Gerry Lawless, following his death at his London home last week, writes Mark Hennessy.

He was interned in the Curragh during the IRA’s 1956-62 Border campaign. He later took a successful case to the European Court of Human Rights over the government’s used of internment without trial.

Later, he was involved in setting up the Troops Out Movement, which called for the withdrawal of the British Army from Northern Ireland.

Mr Lawless became a leading member of the International Marxist Group in London.

The funeral will take place at 3pm at St Marylebone Crematorium, East End Road, London.

He is survived by his wife, Annette, and children.
