New York - Announcing it was ending its investigation, the FBI said yesterday it had found no evidence that a bomb or missile caused the crash of a TWA flight that killed 230 people in 1996.

The bureau showed a videotape to explain the sightings of witnesses who believed a projectile had struck the jumbo jet. The CIA-made tape claimed the sightings of all 244 eyewitnesses took place in the seconds following the explosion of the Boeing 747 over the Atlantic after it had taken off from New York's Kennedy International Airport.

"All the witnesses saw events that happened after the centre tank blew up," the FBI's assistant director, Mr James Kallstrom, said.
