A man was killed early yesterday when the car he was driving hit a road sign on the Athlone bypass. No other vehicle was involved in the accident which happened at Lisseywoollen shortly after 1 a.m.
The dead man, Mr Tom Conroy (44), of Cornamaddy, Athlone, was married with children.
