Dispute over unmarked graves resolved

A dispute over a plot of land containing hundreds of unmarked graves has been resolved.

A dispute over a plot of land containing hundreds of unmarked graves has been resolved.

The Catholic Church had inadvertently leased the 5.9 acres in west Belfast to a wildlife trust some years ago.

The land, beside Milltown Cemetery, contains remains of babies who died in the 1940s and after who were not baptised and so were ineligible for cemetery burial under rules at the time.

The agreement follows a campaign by relatives of those buried in the land to return it to the cemetery. The church has said it will bless the plot and build a commemorative garden.
