The River Suir has burst its banks in Co Tipperary causing flooding in several parts.

The worst-hit area is Clonmel where the town’s quay has been closed until at least 3pm due to severe flooding.

AA Roadwatch said diversions are in place but advised motorists to avoid the area if possible.

The river burst its banks on Saturday following a bout of heavy rainfall but further rain last night has made the quay area in the town impassable.

AA Roadwatch said today there were a lot wet surfaces across Connacht and Munster and advised motorists to reduce speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
