Rennes - The parents of three drowned French boys have urged police to release the traditionalist priest suspected of responsibility for their deaths so he can celebrate a Latin funeral Mass for them.

The parents said they wanted the Catholic priest, Father Jean-Yves Cottard, jailed on suspicion of manslaughter for sending boys from his sailing camp into the rough waters of the Channel, to help "bury them with dignity". A fourth boy disappeared in the accident, as did one man who fell overboard while hauling three surviving boys into his boat.
