An Irish boxing champion left a woman with a broken nose, two black eyes and three broken teeth after he attacked her outside a nightclub, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard.

Glen Stephens, a seven-times champion, claimed that he had been on a two-day drinking spree and couldn't remember attacking Ms Sinead Doyle. Judge Patrick McCartan said he didn't believe Stephens.

Stephens (26), Manor Street, Dublin 7, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Ms Doyle outside Nightowls, Ranelagh on November 9th, 1998.

Judge McCartan said he wanted Stephens to be psychiatrically assessed before the sentencing date of November 17th.
