CHANDIGARH - India's most celebrated policeman was sentenced to five months in prison yesterday for slapping a female colleague on the bottom.

Kanwar Pal Singh Gill, the former Punjab police chief who is credited with stamping out a Sikh separatist campaign, was convicted of indecent behaviour at a cocktail party on July 18th, 1988.
