BBC NORTHERN Ireland's health correspondent Dot Kirby has agreed with the BBC a resolution of complaints she made to the North's Industrial Tribunal, the Northern Ireland Equality Commission has announced.

Ms Kirby, who joined the BBC in 1986, becoming health correspondent in 1994, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 20 years ago, which since worsened. She complained to the tribunal of direct disability discrimination, disability-related discrimination, victimisation, failure to make reasonable adjustments, sex discrimination and age discrimination. The BBC denied all allegations.

There is no admission of liability, and the journalist will take ill-health retirement. "In the light of this the BBC has exercised its discretion to award Ms Kirby a payment equivalent to one year's salary," the commission said.
