The average weekly earnings for workers in the financial sector in Ireland grew by more than the average earnings index in the past year.

According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the average weekly wage of employees in the banking, insurance and building societies sector increased between by 1.7 per cent between September 2004 and Spetember 2005.

The average earnings index rose by 1.6 per cent in the same period.

Employment in the financial sector is also on the rise, with an extra 3,200 workers joining the sector in that 12-month period.
