With just five days to go to the deadline when employers must provide mandatory access to PRSAs, a survey reveals that 48 per cent of employers are not aware of the Septemebr 15th deadline.

The research carried out for EBS revealed a very high level of awareness among employers of their PRSA obligations with 95 per cent indicating that they were aware of them but there was confusion in relation to the deadline.

Just 52% of employers were aware of the September 15th deadline, 30% thought it was a different date, while the remainder didn't know.

Around 60 per cent of those employers surveyed stated that they had appointed a PRSA provider as required under the legislation while a third had not.

Almost half of all Irish workers have no pension arrangements whatsoever according to the Central Statistics Office, and almost two thirds of private sector workers have no access to a pension scheme.

Mr Paul King, PRSA manager with EBS urged employers to make arrangements in the days remaining to appoint a PRSA provider.

"This is not just a case of employers complying with a regulation or not," he said. "It is of fundamental importance to the future welfare of workers and the nation's finances."

IMS Millward Brown carried out the research on behalf of EBS.
