Dubai - An Azerbaijani cargo aircraft with eight crew members crashed off the coast of the United Arab Emirates late yesterday shortly after takeoff from the Gulf Arab state, the UAE's official news agency WAM reported.
"An Ilyushin-76 caught fire after takeoff from the Ras alKhaimah international airport and it crashed in the sea," the agency said, adding that preliminary information indicated the plane was carrying cargo.
The fate of the crew is unknown.
