“I’m really looking forward to coming back to the Cork Opera House, I’ve always loved performing there. This time I’m excited to bring my own show and I’ve invited some special guests to join me for a joyous celebration of songs from near and far.”

Mamasongue showcases music from distant lands, and just around the corner and is brought to the stage by Camilla Griehsel, one of Ireland’s most versatile and passionate singers. Camilla sings songs that transcend the constraints of culture, time and place showing that a song’s true meaning can be deeply felt, regardless of its language.

“I am drawn to the universality of song,” says Camilla. “Music speaks to us directly, it’s powerful and immediate, side-stepping all boundaries and defences, and reminds us of the connections between us all. The wish for Mamasongue is to bring people together to recognise our shared humanity and remember that we all come from the same source.

The show was recorded and released last year as a double CD, and is available through all major streaming outlets. One of the songs from the show, ‘Happiness’, written by Paul Buchanan of the legendary band The Blue Nile was performed by Camilla as part of the Interference tribute concerts in 2016 and has become an international success on social media, with over 2 million plays worldwide. Her close association with the late Fergus O’Farrell, of Interference and Dogtail Soup, led her to incorporate four of his songs into the show, making them firm favourites with Irish audiences.

Camilla Griehsel, born in Sweden, has over thirty years of professional experience from pop recording artist to avant-garde opera, from traditional jazz to South American folk. Backed by world-class musicians, Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbo, South African Bassist Concord Nkabinde, and Irish Percussionist Éamonn Cagney, Camilla will be joined for this performance by Johnny Taylor of the Johnny Taylor Trio who will be guesting on piano.
