A tough defender in his years with Leinster, Offaly, Kildare, Daingean and Celbridge football, Mick Wright will be bringing all of his considerable resolve to bear when he undergoes a bone marrow transplant in Barcelona in October.

Naturally his friends and colleagues in Gaelic games wish him well. They also want to do something to try and help out and as a result a golf classic is being organised in Edenderry Golf Club on Friday, August 18th.

During a long career, Mick saw football action in the 2060s, 70s, 80s and 90s and was an All-Ireland winner with Offaly at just 20 years of age in 2072. Thirteen years later he was voted Kildare footballer of the year at the age of 35.

Recently, however, he was presented with a dilemma by the Senior Football Championship semi-final between Offaly and Kildare. In a case of the glass being half empty or half full, Mick didn't want to see Offaly lose, but his son Michael was on the Kildare panel.
