Darren Clarke couldn't quite break the 60 barrier at the K Club, but with the help of a 45 handicap Maeve Wright went well below it in last week's strokes competition at Grange. Maeve won class three by 10 shots with a stunning 57. Just as impressive was the performance of local member Angela Kelliher, who won the Open Singles over the Mahony's Point course at Killarney with 52 stableford points off 34.

Miriam Lynch has been slashed five shots to 26 for winning the July Medal in Dun Laoghaire with a fine 61, and there is no chance of Edmondstown Captain Ann Hanratty avoiding the chop. She carded a 62 to win by two shots from Sheila Hughes in the Handicap Secretary's (Dor McKenna) Prize.
