GOLF/Bay Hill Invitational: World number one Tiger Woods won his fourth consecutive Bay Hill Invitational, at Orlando, Florida, yesterday shooting a final-round four-under-par 68 to win the $4.5 million event by 11 strokes.
Woods (27), won for the third time on the PGA Tour this year, and finished at 19-under-par 269, almost 20 shots better than world number two Ernie Els, who had been expected to duel with Woods for the title.
The big South African finished with a five-over 77 and tied for 38th at even-par 288.
Kirk Triplett (70), Kenny Perry (71), Brad Faxon (74) and Stewart Cink (72) were joint second at eight-under-par 280.
Australian Aaron Baddeley (72) finished sixth at seven-under 281, followed by JL Lewis (67), Jerry Kelly (70) and Jeff Sluman (70) at six-under 282.
Eighteen-year-old Ty Tryon shot a final-round 69 to finish tied for 10th, his best PGA Tour finish.
Woods's win was the 37th of his career on the PGA tour and the 28th victory out of 30 when he has either held or shared the 54-hole lead.
The win was also his fourth straight at Bay Hill, which is a 10-minute drive from his home.
Beginning the final round with a five-shot lead, Woods eagled the par-five fourth and birdied the par-three seventh to go out in 33 and open a nine-shot lead by the turn.
He added a final birdie at the par-three 17th.
Darren Clarke was left fuming after a final round 74, which included a bogey, bogey, bogey finish. It left the Ulsterman in a tie for 38th.
On the Champions Tour, Des Smyth was a full 10 shots back of leader Rodger Davis halfway through his final round of the Toshiba Senior Classic in Newport Beach, California.
Smyth, who had fired a two-under-par 69 on Saturday, was two-under-par for the final round after 12 holes.
