Annika Sorenstam continued her sensational run of success when she beat the defending champion and fellow-Swede Sophie Gustafson in a play-off to collect her fifth title of the season in the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship at Eagles Landing, Atlanta, Georgia.
Sorenstam looked down and out when she trailed by four shots at the turn, but she hit a hot streak with five birdies in the final six holes for a 67 and a 13 under par 203 total that only Gustafson, with a 68, could match.
In the second hole of the playoff, Gustafson contributed to her own downfall when she hit her second into water at the 10th, and a Sorenstam par was good enough for the £116,000 top prize.
"It's been another amazing week," reflected Sorenstam, whose season's credits include a second round 59 in the Standard Register PING in Phoenix.
