WILSON'S HOSPITAL advanced to the Leinster Schools Senior Cup (Section A) semi finals following a hard earned victory over Dundalk GS. The two schools had reached the quarter final following easy wins which saw them register a combined total of 107 points.

But from an early stage of this evenly contested affair it was apparent that neither would have the opportunity to run up a high tally. Full back Barry Loughrey was the outstanding figure for the winners, scoring all of their 16 points.

The Multifarnham side had marginally the better of the early play and penalties in the 11th and 23rd minutes by Loughrey put them 6-0 ahead. But Dundalk pressed hard and in first half injury time loose head prop Stephen Duffy went over for a deserved try to leave it 6-5 at the break.

The decisive score came 12 minutes after the restart when the excellent Barry Leonard set up Loughrey for a try beneath the posts. Loughrey added a further penalty nine minutes before the end to put the issue beyond doubt, though Declan Lambe kicked a late penalty for Dundalk.
