Despite only scoring a point from an early second-half penalty, Kildare ran out easy winners over Waterford at Dungarvan yesterday. Kildare set the early pace in this game and held a three-point advantage by the end of the opening quarter, despite playing against a strong wind.

The Lillywhites went on to hold a six-point interval lead restricting Waterford to a solitary point from a free scored by Stephen Cunningham in the opening period. The visitors were awarded a penalty 90 seconds after the re-start, when halftime substitute Brian Murphy was fouled, but John Doyle's effort blazed over the crossbar.

Despite this, Kildare went on to lead by 0-11 to 0-3 at the end of the third quarter before Waterford full forward Ger Walsh scored a good goal but it was as close as the home side came.
