1 Par 4, 448 yardsThe longer hitters will take a driver aiming down the tree line on the left but will need to carry it 290 yards to negotiate the dogleg.
There is a generous fairway and plenty of room right but it offers the more awkward approached to a well-bunkered, elevated green.
2 Par 4, 505 yards
A converted par five, the landing area for most tee shots is just 28 yards wide, with a big bunker on the right and a creek meandering up the left side. The green is raised at the front and guarded by three bunkers. It'll be important to fly it in high.
3 Par 3, 206 yards
This tee shot will be played into the prevailing breeze over water that shouldn't really come into play unless a player catches his shot very fat. Two-tiered green with a massive bunker on the left and a steep grass bank in front. A front pin position would make it tricky.
4 Par 4, 375 yards
The rough in front of the green has been cut tight and this will tempt the long hitters to take it over the bunker on the left. The alternative is to hit a hybrid or long-iron off the tee to set up a short-iron approach. The severely sloping green could leave some tricky putts.
5 Par 4, 463 yards
A dogleg right, a long menacing bunker has been introduced on the right to catch the errant drive. Vital to the hit the fairway, because it's a long-iron into a green with a grass swale on the left and a bunker right.
6 Par 4, 500 yards
The hole has been lengthened by 79 yards but the players won't be hitting driver because of the run-out to a water hazard at 300 yards.
Long-iron approach to a heavily contoured green with the additional difficulties posed by trees that could block out on the right side.
7 Par 5, 601 yards
One of Valhalla's most celebrated holes. The tee shot offers two strategic options, the first of which is to hit an island fairway on the left, leaving a second shot of about 235 yards across a rock- walled lake. The more conventional route is the three-shot option around the lake. Great hole for matchplay.
8 Par 3, 180 yards
It's an entirely new green with multiple tiers ensuring plenty of potential pin positions. In practice, players spent time putting up and down the big slopes to try and get a feel for potential hole locations. Could see some three-putts here for all but the most accurate.
9 Par 4, 416 yards
Left of centre is the ideal position for the tee shot and anything but straight will catch sand or worse. The elevated green has caught out some players in practice as they under-clubbed. Going past the pin leaves one of the slickest downhill putts on the course.
10 Par 5, 594 yards
Plays down the prevailing breeze and is certainly reachable in two for the longer hitters. Steep slope from fairway to a small green with a narrow opening. In foursomes the teams may elect to play it as a three-shot option.
11 Par 3, 208 yards
Another new green site played to from an elevated tee. Appears to favour the draw but anything that stays right will catch a couple of greenside bunkers.
12 Par 4, 464 yards
A long hole into the prevailing wind but the driver's likely to stay in the bag for most players. Tee shot is about position; the second must be played into a putting surface that slopes from left to right.
13 Par 4, 353 yards
They'll definitely shift the tee forward, especially in the fourballs to encourage the long hitters to try and go for the green. The putting surface is small (4,500 square feet), surrounded on three sides by water and will be difficult to hold. Fans' favourite hole.
14 Par 3, 215 yards
Another right-to-left tee shot is required but hitting the green is not enough because it boasts several tiers. A back left pin position would leave very little margin for error. Guarded by three bunkers.
15 Par 4, 434 yards
Water runs up the right side of this hole. The ideal tee shot would be to take it close to a bunker on the left side, leaving the more straight forward approach. Miss the green left and the putting surface races downhill to the water.
16 Par 4, 511 yards
The hole has been lengthened by 65 yards and a drive sent down the left flirts with overhanging trees. The second shot will require a long-iron to an elevated green.
17 Par 4, 477yards
Carrying the fairway bunker on the left demands that a player hits it 320 yards in the air. The second shot is played semi-blind to a green with a couple of bunkers and an appreciable run off area on the right and through.
18 Par 5, 547 yards
Cascading lake on the right sees the fairway set in a horseshoe effect. Most players will comfortably reach a well-bunkered green in two but for those that go long, it'll be a stern examination of their putting skills.
