At the end of a weather-interrupted tournament at Lisnagarvey, Ulster took the under-21 interprovincial title on goal difference – by one score – from defending champions Leinster after beating South East 8-0 in their final game.

By then Leinster had taken maximum points from Connacht, South East and Munster before drawing 1-1 with the hosts, but four first-half goals from Lurgan’s Lucy McKee set Ulster on course to score the eight they needed to take the title.

It was McKee, with her fifth of the game, who got the decisive goal midway through the second half. Vanessa Surgeoner (two) and Julie Allison were Ulster’s other scorers, ending Leinster’s three-in-a-row hopes.

No one, though, had a more testing day than Connacht, who ended up playing three matches yesterday as a result of Saturday’s postponements due to frost.
