AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION  Bohemians1 Monaghan Utd 2:JASON MARKS scored a late goal to give Monaghan a fully deserved first victory of the season, despite their having to play with 10 men for virtually the whole game at Dalymount Park last night.

Substitute Marks collected Conor Murphy’s pass to turn well in the box and curl a left-foot shot to the bottom far corner of the net on 87 minutes.

Ryan McEvoy’s goal-of-the-season contender on 61 minutes looked to have salvaged a point for Bohemians as they laboured for much of the game despite their numerical advantage.

With little apparently on, 21-year-old substitute McEvoy took a touch some 35 yards out and let fly with a left-foot shot that arrowed to the top corner of replacement goalkeeper Michael Schlingermann’s net.

Monaghan’s hopes of ending their winless start to the season looked ominous following goalkeeper Chris Bennion’s red card less than three minutes in.

Dave Mulcahy’s ball forward caught the visitors’ defence square and as Karl Moore ran through he was taken down outside the area by Bennion, who was promptly dismissed by referee Dave McKeon.

Home goalkeeper Andy McNulty had to parry away a shot from Darragh Reynor on 17 minutes before Stephen Maher mis-controlled with the goal at his mercy after Jordan Keegan’s delicately lay-off.

Maher gave Monaghan a deserved lead four minutes into the second half. Keegan crossed form the right for Maher to swivel and shoot to the net off a post.

Despite the win, Monaghan remain bottom of the table.
