BOOKMAKERS were preparing for a big pay-out after the two "Tarts" both won yesterday afternoon. The James Fanshawe-trained Tart (Fr) took the opening claiming race at Yarmouth at odds of 15 to 8. And his namesake without the suffix, trained by Fulke Johnson Houghton, was an 11 to 2 winner of the last race at Sandown.
"On occasions like this a lot of punters will have done a double on the two Tarts which pays 17 1/2 to 1," said Ladbrokes spokesman Simon Clare.
"There are always people backing horses with names they like and this one was short and sweet so a lot will have backed them." Those who backed Tart in a single, without specifying a venue, will be paid out on the longer-priced winner.
Clare explained: "The rules are that if a punter has not specified which Tart he wants he is on the one without a suffix, this time the 11 to 2 winner, so it is a case of bookmakers' rules working in printers' favour!
Henry Candy yesterday declared Eveningperformance firmly on course for another tilt at the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp on October 6th.
He is hoping the mare will be able to improve on last year's effort when third behind Hever Golf Rose in the Group One five-furlong contest.
