Galway United 1 Waterford United 2:Coping with the burden of local expectancy has bothered Galway United since returning to the top flight. Without a Terryland Park win since last November, Tony Cousins's charges were eager to end this search against a Waterford United outfit who are in similar choppy waters.

Both teams were hesitant early on but eventually Galway started to perform. Regillio Nootimer impressed at right full, while John Lester provided a solid midfield presence. In attack Derek Glynn's pace was vexing the visitors.

Galway nearly took the lead in the 27th minute when Glynn and Waterford goalkeeper Dean Delaney tussled. The ball spilled kindly for Barry Moran but under pressure the striker whipped his shot wide. Derek O'Brien also volleyed over as Galway poured forward in search of a goal.

It arrived three minutes after the restart and there was a touch of good fortune about it as the ball deflected off Robbie Hedderman past Delaney. Parity was restored on 53 minutes when Waterford's Dave Breen's headed home and Vinny Sullivan, in the 73rd minute, netted a clinical winner.
