Starborough is out to redeem the reputation that was slightly tarnished in the Sussex Stakes when he takes on the cream of France's milers in tomorrow's Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville.
Trainer David Loder believes that Starborough's defeat at the hands of Ali-Royal in the Goodwood race was probably because Starborough was a little ring rusty.
But Frankie Dettori's mount will have to be right at the top of his game over Deauville's straight mile, with his rivals including last year's winner, Spinning World, and the Aga Khan's dashing grey Daylami, reported back to the form of his pulverising French 2,000 Guineas victory in May.
Andre Fabre sent out Miss Satamixa to spring a shock in this race in 1995, and he's double handed this time with Zamindar and the improving Neuilly. Neuilly has already scored one Deauville shock when winning the Prix Messidor over this course and distance last month.
