League champions St Patrick's Athletic and Cup winners Shelbourne renewed their Dalymount Park acquaintance from last May's Cup Final replay but were half the teams they were that day, personnel wise, as St Patrick's won the 59th staging of the LFA President's Cup on penalties.

Scheduled for extra time if necessary, the game went straight to penalties at the behest of both managers following a centre circle debate and agreement with LFA officials in the stand, much to the amusement of the small crowd.
