LEINSTER JUNIOR CUP: St Mary's College 12 Castleknock College 5: ST MARY'S College put up a terrific rearguard action after the break to keep out a brave Castleknock College outfit in yesterday's rearranged Leinster Schools' Junior Cup fixture in Barnhall.

The game, originally fixed for the Kildare venue prior to the inclement weather, had been set to be played at Railway Union club in Sandymount before being switched back to Barnhall.

The first half had seen a fluid St Mary’s backline set up two tries for Cian Delaney inside 10 minutes, the St Mary’s centre converting the second.

But Castleknock, having struck just before half-time through hooker Dylan Perry, turned the screws after the turnaround with St Mary’s entrenched inside their own 22 for much of the second half.

And Castleknock almost grabbed a second try with just a few minutes remaining in the match when fullback Mike Mellet was stopped just short of the line for his team.
