Alex Ferguson has pencilled £7 million signing Nemanja Vidic in for an FA Cup debut against non league Burton Albion next Wednesday.

Vidic travelled to the Pirelli Stadium to watch yesterday's surprise 0-0 draw which earned the Brewers their lucrative trip to Old Trafford.

Currently, the 24-year-old Serbian international is not deemed fit enough to play as he has not completed a competitive match since turning out for former club Spartak Moscow at the end of their season in November.

But Ferguson believes another week of endurance training and a few days of intensive team-work at Carrington will put Vidic in line to face Nigel Clough's Conference side.

"We will see how he comes through the physical work this week but it is possible the replay would be perfect for him," said Ferguson.

"Ideally you don't like to make a move too far away from the window but once we knew Fiorentina were involved we had to go for him as quickly as we could."

Vidic will soon be joined at Carrington by full-back Patrice Evra, who will spend the next two days having an extensive medical before completing a £5million switch from Monaco.

"Patrice has only had a two week break from matches and he has been training all the time," said Ferguson.

"He is different from Nemanja in that respect, so he could well be involved against Blackburn."
