Soccer - Airtricity League Round-Up:Shamrock Rovers were convincing 6-1 winners away to UCD tonight to maintain their stranglehold at the top of the Airtricity Premier Division.
The game may have struggled to capture the imagination in the early stages, but the second half offered plenty for the onlookers at Belfield.
That said Gary Twigg scored a brace in the first period after he struck the game's opening goal in the 33rd minute and followed up with another eight minutes later to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break.
Karl Sheppard and Billy Dennehy got on the scoresheet for the league leaders after 51 and 77 minutes.
The final acts of the game came with Ciaran Kilduff's late brace with three minutes left of normal time. That Darren Meehan scored for the students in between Kilduff's strikes was of no consolation as Rovers were home and dry long before the UCD goal.
Elsewhere there were respective away wins for Drogheda United and Bray Wanderers against Dundalk and Galway United.
Bohemians and Sligo Rovers played out a 0-0 draw while St Patrick's Athletic and Derry City drew 1-1.
