League of Ireland review:Shamrock Rovers were made to sweat by a dogged Bohemians side at Tallaght Stadium tonight but they eventually emerged victorious, thanks to goals from Gary Twigg and Billy Dennehy.
The champions were frustrated by a disciplined Bohs for almost 80 minutes, and struggled to get support to striker Twigg, but the league’s top scorer took his chance when it came his way.
A sustained bit of possession for the homeside in the 79th minute resulted in the ball landing at Ronan Finn’s feet. The midfielder’s ball was controlled on the chest by Twigg before he volleyed past Andrew McNulty.
Dennehy added the gloss with an injury-time strike seconds after Dinny Corcoran hit the post for Bohs.
At Tolka Park, Christy Fagan’s equaliser just before halftime earned St Patrick’s Athletic a point against Shelbourne, who opened the scoring through Brendan McGill in the 22nd minute.
Shels played the last 25 minutes with 10 men after Glenn Cronin was sent off for a reckless challenge on John Russell.
Cork City were held by Bray Wanderers at Turner’s Cross. Tadhg Purcell gave the homeside the lead in the fourth minute when he finished off a breakaway goal, but Jason Byrne was on hand to equalise in the 74th.
Cillian Morrison and Paul O’Connor both scored for UCD in the last 10 minutes to help the Students to a 3-2 win in Belfield.
Ryan Brennan and Brian Gannon were both on target as Drogheda United beat Derry City 2-0 at Hunky Dorys Park, where the visitors sa six yellow cards and one red for Barry Molloy.
