Roman Pavlyuchenko is set to feature in Tottenham's Carling Cup clash at Doncaster tomorrow but has suggested he may need to move to keep his place in Russia's World Cup squad.

The 27-year-old, who arrived at White Hart Lane a year ago for €15.7million, scored 14 goals in his debut season in the Premier League but is behind Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane in Harry Redknapp's pecking order, with Peter Crouch's arrival intensifying competition.

So far this season Pavlyuchenko's only involvement has come in a minute-long appearance off the bench against Liverpool.

"No footballer likes being on the bench game after game," Pavlyuchenko told Sport Expressin Russia. "I could lose my place in the Russia squad ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

"I'm ready now to listen to offers from other clubs."

Italian side Roma have monitored Pavlyuchenko and there is thought to be interest in Germany and from his former club Spartak Moscow.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has yet to comment on the Russian's quotes but has had plenty to say on transfer speculation surrounding one of his more prized assets.

Alex Ferguson is understood to be an admirer of Luka Modric and reports have suggested the Manchester United manager was considering a move for the Croatian playmaker.

There was speculation that a deal could see Michael Carrick return to White Hart Lane in exchange for Modric but Redknapp insists there is no truth in the story.

"Luka Modric is a fantastic player, so is Michael Carrick," Redknapp said on Sky Sports News. "I want to keep Luka here and I am sure Alex wants to keep Michael at Man Utd, so that's a load of rubbish.

"He (Ferguson) likes him (Modric) but I like Ronaldo. I couldn't get him. It's never going to happen. Alex has never made an approach for him."

Redknapp also reiterated that he would not be trying to sign goalkeeper David James after working with him at Portsmouth.

"There is nothing in that one," he stressed. "That is just another rumour."

Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole is another player to have worked with Redknapp in the past and, like James, has been linked with a switch to Spurs this summer.

However, Redknapp does not believe there is any chance of the England international making the move across London

He said: "Joe Cole is a fantastic player but he is at Chelsea and he is going to stay at Chelsea. There is nothing in that whatsoever.

"Any team would like Joe but he is not a player I have even made a phone call about because I don't think it would be possible to get him. He belongs to Chelsea."
