Jewell ready to consider offers

Paul Jewell wants a return to management and is willing to discuss offers from potential employers.

The 43-year-old resigned as Wigan manager at the end of last season and has been linked with the vacant Republic of Ireland job.

Jewell is viewed as an interesting contender in light of his success at Wigan and Bradford when working with limited resources.

But Wigan could be the first knocking at his door.  The club's chairman, Dave Whelan, suggested Jewell was top of his wish-list following the sacking of Chris Hutchings' this week.

When asked today if Jewell was his first-choice candidate Whelan said: "Absolutely."

Jewell, though, denies contact with officials at the JJB Stadium and is leaving himself open to an approach from the Football Association of Ireland.

"Let me make it quite clear, I have had no contact with chairman Dave Whelan these past few days or anyone at the club for that matter," he said.

"But, after six months away from management, I am ready and willing to return to work.

"Any offers that come my way I will consider and I firmly believe I will return to football refreshed and a better manager."
