RTÉ confirm Euro 2016 broadcasting rights

Tournament will be shown across multiple platforms after EBU and Uefa strike deal

RTÉ have confirmed it will be broadcasting next summer's European Championships across a number of platforms, including television, online and mobile.

The broadcaster announced they had secured the rights for Ireland's Euro 2016 and 2018 World Cup qualifiers in April 2013 after they agreed a deal as part of a European Broadcasting Union agreement, which involved 30 countries showing national team games free-to-air.

However it wasn’t until Wednesday the EBU announced they had reached an agreement with Uefa for exclusive rights to all the games in next summer’s tournament across 26 countries.

When asked by the Irish Times if they had a contingency plan for showing France 2016 if the EBU’s agreement with Uefa didn’t come to fruition, RTÉ declined to comment.
