Honduras want Argentina legend Diego Maradona to coach their national side

Honduras want Argentina legend Diego Maradona to coach their national side.  Maradona, who has had only two brief coaching experiences, was visiting the Central American nation yesterday where he was due to meet directors of the Honduran federation.

"Maradona said last night (Tuesday) that he would be willing to coach Honduras," former Honduras president Rafael Callejas said.

"He's someone who would give us a high profile in the football world."

Maradona briefly coached Argentine provincial club Deportivo Mandiyu in 1994 and the more prestigious Racing Club the following year. He enjoyed little success in either post.

Despite this, he has often been named as a possible future coach of Argentina.

Honduras made their only World Cup finals appearance in Spain in 1982 when they were knocked out in the first round.

The last high-profile coach to be hired by the Central Americans was Bora Milutinovic.  He resigned in 2004 after less than one year in charge, saying he was tired of criticism of his work and of comments that his wages were too high.
