Duff and Carr miss trip to Palermo

Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder headed off for tomorrow's Uefa Cup clash against Palermo without key senior players.

Republic of Ireland internationals Damien Duff and Stephen Carr were left behind after a gruelling run of games, while skipper Scott Parker, Celestine Babayaro, strikers Obafemi Martins (hamstring) and Shola Ameobi (hip) were also not among the 23-man party which left for Sicily this morning.

Shay Given was one of five goalkeepers included in the squad but is unlikely to be involved as he continues his recovery from abdominal surgery, while Pavel Srnicek, like striker Giuseppe Rossi, is ineligible.
