Soccer:Guy Bates was the player who scored the all-important goal to secure Drogheda United's first league title and today he has re-signed for the Premier Division club along with Brendan McGill, who returns after cross-channel duties.

Striker Bates scored the goal against Cork City which gave the Drogs their first league title in 2007. This time around he returns from Belgium after RAA Louvieroise released the striker at the end of their domestic campaign.

McGill was released by Barrow at the end of the season after previously playing for Gretna, Carlisle and Bohemians. The midfielder has an FAI cup medal from his time at Bohs and also a Scottish League Division One medal from his two-year stint with Gretna.

"Going into the second half of the season and with a small squad such as ours, it was always important that we looked to get a few players in during the transfer window to ensure that we have a squad capable of consolidating the clubs position in the Premier Division," said Drogheda manager Alan Matthews.
