Soccer:Cork City have confirmed their friendly match against Celtic will take place at Turner's Cross on Wednesday, September 9th with a 7.45pm kick-off

The visit of Celtic is a welcome boost for the Leesiders who narrowly avoided going out of business in recent weeks. The income from the friendly will certainly help boost the coffers at the cash-strapped club.

Celtic’s chief executive Peter Lawwell said the Scottish giants are looking forward to the visit.

"We are very pleased to be visiting Cork, and we hope that the friendly match will assist Cork City in raising funds to secure the future of the club,” said Lawwell.

“Celtic Football Club has always had great support from Cork, and we sincerely hope that this match goes some way to aiding such a fantastic community asset continue their existence.”

"While a number of the squad will be on international duty and unable to take part in the match we will be sending as strong a squad as possible and will do all we can to make the match an occasion to remember."

Ticket details for the game still have to be released.
