Republic of Ireland international midfielder Andy Reid has left Tottenham for Barclays Premiership rivals Charlton.

The midfielder, Iain Dowie's fifth new recruit in the last nine days, has signed a four-year deal with the Addicks in a deal which could be worth £3million.

Dowie said: "Everyone is aware that the Premier League is about quality and ability on the ball, so we are delighted to clinch Andy's signing.

"He is a player of immense quality and potential and I believe that this is a very good acquisition for the club," added Dowie.

"Andy is still a very young player who can go on to achieve great things.

"He has a great range of passing, a tremendous set-piece delivery and also possesses an eye for goal.

"We are also delighted to have secured his signature in the face of some stiff competition."

Reid, who has won 22 caps and scored three goals for his country, joined Spurs from Nottingham Forest in January, 2005 for £4million in a deal which also brought Michael Dawson to White Hart Lane.

The 24-year-old scored 25 goals in 160 first-team appearances for Forest to become one of the hottest talents outside the Premiership.

He went on to make 27 appearances while at White Hart Lane and scored one goal, a long-range effort in a 5-1 victory against Aston Villa in May 2005.

Reid becomes Charlton's eighth new arrival of the summer, following Djimi Traore, Scott Carson, Amady Faye, Cristian Bolanos, Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, Simon Walton and Cory Gibbs to The Valley.
