Bohemians remain dominant as Drogheda secure vital win

LOI ROUND-UP:Bohemians continued their inexorable march to the Premier Division title tonight with a convincing 3-0 win over Finn Harps.

It took an hour for the Gypsies to find the net but once Jason McGuiness got things going the home side never looked like their 23-game unbeaten run was under threat.

Glen Crowe and Gary Deegan added later goals keeping Bohemians 16 points ahead of St Patrick's Athletic at the top of the table.

A late Mark Quigley goal was enough to keep St Patrick's Athletic on target for a place in Europe next season with a narrow victory over Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.
 
After a slow start, St Pats found their rhythm and applied more and more pressure as the game went on.  But it took until the 82nd minute for substitute Gary O'Neill to produce a perfect cross from the left for Quigley to stab in his 13th league goal of the season.

Drogheda United made amends for two defe4ats to Derry City this season with a 1-0 win at the Brandywell and boosting their chances securing a place in the UEFA Cup next season.

Derry looked out of sorts with centre halves Peter Hutton and Clive Delaney missing while Drogheda's organisation and doggedness served to further upset the normally fluent Foylesiders.

The Drogs got their reward in the 33rd minute when the hard-working Richie Baker got in behind the home defence and crossed for Eamon Zayed.

A Seán Doherty penalty, meanwhile, gave Sligo Rovers a win at UCD which leaves the students still in deep trouble three off the bottom after Galway United  picked up a point at home to Shamrock Rovers in a 1-1 draw.

Galway are now three points behind UCD and just a point of Cobh who play Cork City tomorrow.
