Cricket: Nearly 500 stewards and police will be on duty for today's one-day triangular series match between Australia and Pakistan at Trent Bridge in an attempt to prevent a pitch invasion. The decision to double the number of stewards to more than 350 follows mayhem at Headingley on Sunday. England conceded their match against Pakistan after a steward sustained broken ribs when hundreds of spectators invaded the pitch.

Cricket: Indian bookmaker Mukesh Gupta has been given until July 1st to substantiate his allegations that he offered or paid money to leading international cricketers for pitch and team information. At a news conference yesterday, the head of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit Paul Condon said Gupta had until the end of this month to either appear before a cricket disciplinary committee or make a legal deposition.

Swimming: A team of five Irish swimmers - Emma Robinson, Chantal Gibney, Julie Douglas, Deirdre Hughes and Michael Williamson - has been selected for the World Championships in Japan next month.

The European Junior Championships in Malta takes place during the first week of next month and the three-strong team is comprised of Sinead Tyrrell, Mark Doyle (Leinster) and Michael Kelleher (Munster).

The OCI-funded team for the European Youths Olympics in Murcia at the end of next month is Liam Donohue, Michael Donohue, AnneMarie Fenton, Conor O'Dea, Natasha O'Brien, Tanya Franciosa, Paul Roban, Stephanie Morrissey, Stephen Banahan, Anthony O'Toole, Barry Murphy, Ciara Kelleher, Melanie Nocher, Kate Variey, Jonathan Niblock and Pat McKenna.

Cycling: Olympic mountain-bike rider Robin Seymour enhanced his chances of securing a team for the remainder of the season when he won the fourth round of the SRAM New England Series in Vermont. He finished one and a half minutes ahead of series leader Luis Francisco of the Trek team. Seymour's next race is the West Virginia round of the Norba series this weekend.

Golf: The Ireland team to play Scotland in a youths international at Enniscrone on June 27th is: Gary Maybin (Ballyclare), Michael McDermott (Stackstown), Alistair McKinley (Shandon Park), Derek McNamara (Connemara), Sean McTernan (Co Sligo), Mark O'Sullivan (UCD/Galway).

Meanwhile, Cian McNamara of Limerick GC and Brendan McCarroll (Ballyliffin) will represent Ireland in the European Young Masters tournament at Augsburg GC, Germany, on July 26th to 28th.

Motor Sport: British American Racing boss Craig Pollock confirmed yesterday that Japanese manufacturer Honda will continue to power the team in 2002. Honda, who signed with BAR last year, supply engines and also help with chassis development for the team.
