Bundoran manager Gabriel Daly entered four teams into this season's Golf Masters. The Snoozers, The Dozers, The Catatonics and he can't remember the name of the other one. Maybe he fell asleep before registering a name.
Anyway, week five proved it's not always a case of you snooze, you lose, as the least unconscious of Daly's teams picked up our prize of a fourball at Druids Heath, part of the Druids Glen complex which won European golf resort of the year in 2004.
Snoozer in chief was Adam Scott, who earned a100,000 for his wire-to-wire victory in the Johnnie Walker Classic.
Jose-Maria Olazabal added a70,000 for third place in Houston, and the next best contribution came from Darren Clarke, who earned a57,500 after finishing a shot behind Ollie.
Daly was a little mad with Clarke the previous week when he let the MCI Heritage slip through his hands but has reaped the rewards for his decision to stick with the Ulsterman. The Snoozers are 11th overall and Daly, who normally doesn't tinker too much with his teams, is considering some transfers. "If you're going to take remedial action, you need to take it early," sums up his philosophy.
Early is one thing, but Patricia McMahon jumped the gun by transferring out Scott ahead of the action in China.
Her Magnificent Seven selection was hardly threatening at 7,458th in the rankings. Losing Scott has dropped them to 8,794th. Ouch.
We pass the quarter-way mark in the season this week with regular money on offer at the BMW Asian Open and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
