Garry Ringrose says women’s interprovincial incident ‘a massive mistake’

‘I actually saw a video of it on Instagram and it is obviously pretty ridiculous’

Leinster and Irish centre Garry Ringrose has said what happened at the women's interprovincial match last weekend should never be repeated.

The IRFU and Leinster issued an apology after the Connacht women’s changing area was set up beside bins on waste ground adjacent to Energia Park in Dublin’s Donnybrook.

A Connacht player posted a video of their changing facilities on social media, saying “Wow, great job getting changed beside the dump. Don’t mind the rats.”

Ringrose, who is on his way back to fitness after a shoulder injury was speaking ahead of the new United Rugby Championship (URC), which begins the weekend after next.

Leinster play against South Africa side The Bulls in their opening game, for which Ringrose will not be fit to play.

“I actually saw a video of it on Instagram and it is obviously pretty ridiculous and there was clearly a massive mix [up]. But I can’t imagine it is a mistake that should ever be made again,” said the 26-year-old.

“I don’t really know the ins and outs of it other than that it was a massive mistake and one that shouldn’t have happened but one that, as I said, shouldn’t happen again.”

Ringrose is making a return following a shoulder injury and has had optimistic results in recent tests. He hopes to be back playing competitive rugby within a month.

Leinster’s United Rugby Championship opener against South African side the Bulls will see the Aviva Stadium capacity set at 75 per cent of capacity.

The game on Saturday, September 25th will kick off at 5.15pm with a capacity of over 38,000 allowed in a stadium with a capacity of just under 52,000.
