SIGERSON CUP: UCD1-16 UL1-15: A LATE Mark Ronaldson point in the fourth period of extra-time earned UCD a slender victory in an epic Ulster Bank Sigerson Cup clash at Belfield yesterday.
Mayo native Ronaldson top-scored with 1-7 in a game which UCD looked like winning convincingly at half-time in normal time, having led by 1-8 to 0-3.
Cork’s Fiachra Lynch scored a goal for UL on the restart as the visitors kicked 1-7 without reply and added a late point to give his side a one-point cushion. However, a late Ronaldson equaliser ensured extra-time.
UCD broke three points in front but with UL landing three points including a brace from Enda Varley two further periods of extra-time were needed to separate the sides.
UCD didn’t give UL any time to settle on the ball for the remainder of the game, with Ronaldson kicking the winning score to secure a quarter-final spot against Garda College next week.
