REVOQUE gave Peter Chapple-Hyam valuable compensation for his Arc weekend disasters at Longchamp when thrashing his rivals in the Group One Grand Criterium over one mile at the Paris track yesterday.
Jockey John Reid, who never touched Revoque with his whip, swept clear for a two-length verdict over local hope Majorien.
Last weekend Chapple-Hyam had seen Polaris Flight destroyed after falling in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, and Monza disqualified after winning the Prix de Conde
However, it was all smiles for Chapple-Hyam and owner Robert Sangster after Revoque had justified 5 to 4 on favouritism and stretched his unbeaten record to four.
Jockey John Reid was equally enthusiastic, "I was always going easily and once I pulled him out and asked him to quicken the response was immediate."
John Gosden's runner, King Sound finished third of the nine and though well beaten by the winner, Gosden was far from disconsolate.
"The form of that race looked good to me and my horse will do better over longer distances next year."
The £131,752 victory boosted Revoque's hopes of landing next year's 2,000 Guineas. Bookmakers William Hill responded by cutting Sangster's colt from 10 to 1 to 7 to 1 for next season's classic. Bahhare remains favourite at 5 to 1. And Ladbrokes have shortened Revoque to 8 to 1.
