Rainbow's Carlow stun Tipperary
Carlow 1-14 Tipperary 0-16:Anthony Rainbow’s Carlow stunned Tipperary at Semple Stadium yesterday. The visitors lost corner forward Daniel St Ledger to a serious injury in the first half and had defender Kieran Nolan sent off midway through the second half for a second bookable offence.
Carlow, however, still managed to dig out a crucial one-point win in a fixture that Tipperary had targeted for maximum points.
Tipp were cruising approaching the break, leading by 0-11 to 0-5, but a Paul Reid goal on the stroke of half-time dragged Carlow back into contention.
The sides were level three times in the second half before frees from Brian and Brendan Murphy sent Carlow two points clear with time almost up.
Tipperary’s 2011 All-Ireland minor winning captain Liam McGrath cut the deficit back to just a point but time ran out on the home side.
Reid’s goal was a huge turning point and fuelled Carlow, who kicked some wonderful scores, with the belief that they could spring a surprise.
