Tony McCoy ruled out of Cheltenham two-day meeting with shoulder injury

Irish jockey sustained further damage to shoulder in fall at Wetherby on Wednesday

Tony McCoy will miss the two-day meeting at Cheltenham this weekend after he sustained a recurrence of a shoulder injury at Wetherby on Wednesday.

The perennial champion jockey sustained further damage when he secured his 150th winner of the season aboard Goodwood Mirage.

He was stood down for the rest of the day at Wetherby and missed out on three more winners.

McCoy’s injuries were exacerbated by a fall at Worcester last Thursday, which led to him being sidelined until Tuesday.

The star rider returned to action at Huntingdon, where he claimed a treble.

“He’s obviously very disappointed to be missing Cheltenham,” McCoy’s agent Dave Roberts told the Gloucestershire Echo.

“He’s very sore and you have got to be 100 per cent right. He won’t be riding until next week.”
