SOCCER NEWS:THE PROFESSIONAL Footballers' Association of Ireland has expressed its concern that Bohemians got approval from the FAI for their budget for 2010 yet still find themselves needing €400,000 between now and the end of the season to meet costs.

The players are due their fortnightly wages today, a week after the club called a meeting of its members to outline its dire financial state. The PFAI said yesterday that they have heard nothing to the effect that wages won’t be met.

“I think we all knew, looking at the scenario at Bohs, that things were going to be tight this year,” said PFAI general secretary, Stephen McGuinness.

“I spoke to the FAI in relation to Bohemians and we were told categorically that Bohs’ budget was based on them finishing below mid-table and being knocked out of Europe. So I can’t see now why, all of a sudden, they have an issue with regard to paying wages when their budget was approved on the basis of doing worse than they’re currently doing.

“There have been no noises from the club and there was nothing said to the players (yesterday) morning about not being paid this week, so we just have to manage it between now and the end of the season.”
