Women's Football/Dublin 5-14 Meath 1-9: Dublin are gunning for the All-Ireland title again after they annihilated Meath, 5-14 to 1-9, in the first round of the TG4 Leinster football championship in Moynalty yesterday.

Very little has separated these rivals in recent years, but yesterday's game was beyond doubt at half-time, when Dublin led 2-8 to 0-4.

Sinéad Aherne scored Dublin's first goal early on for a 1-3 to 0-2 lead and the visitors never looked back. Rising teenage star Lyndsay Davey hit their second goal before the break and newly appointed captain Niamh McEvoy hit a screamer to the Meath net on the resumption after good work by Aherne, who sent the Parnell's girl through on goal.

Midway through the second half, Aherne scored her second goal and, moments later, Karen Hopkins tagged on another. Gillian Bennett, who hit 1-5 of Meath's tally, scored a consolation goal in the dying seconds, following up on her own missed penalty to slot home the rebound.
