Patrician, Newbridge 0-9 Marist College, Athlone 0-7:A MORE clinical Patrician, Newbridge side advanced to the second round with a two-point victory at Tubberclair yesterday.
Marist College were left to rue seven second-half wides and are now destined for the qualifiers.
Patrician were aided by the wind in the first half and they led by 0-4 to 0-2 at half-time thanks to points from Ciarán McInerney-Aspell (two), Daniel Nea and Matthew Byrne, while Jack Carty and Robert Buckley replied for Marist.
Scores from Byrne (two), Adam Tyrell and Nea extended Newbridge's lead to 0-8 to 0-3 and Marist's late comeback, sparked by three points from Callum McCormack, proved in vain.
