Under the watchful eye of the tournament's 96-year-old namesake, a comedian's son sank a birdie putt at the 18th hole to win the Bob Hope Classic at Bermuda Dunes Country club in La Quinta, California.

Sweden's Jesper Parnevik rolled in a five-footer on the final hole to capture his third career victory, edging Rory Sabbatini by one stroke at this five-round marathon.

Parnevik's father, Bo, is considered Sweden's most famous comedian who counts Hope among his favourites. Moments earlier, Parnevik watched as Sabbatini was doomed by a poor tee-shot and had to settle for par at the 513-yard 18th hole to finish with a three-under par 68. The 34-year-old Swede shot a six-under-par 65 and claimed the $540,000 first prize with a 90-hole total of 27-under 331.
